Valentine’s Day

Party

What the Valentine's range covers

Valentine's Day is one occasion and four buying channels, and this page is built around ten groups that are complete solutions rather than raw materials: heart balloons and foil hearts, heart banners and swirl decorations, fabric, foam and PU roses, chocolate boxes and packaging, love letter cards and envelopes, red, pink, white and gold tableware and covers, candle holders and votives, gift bags and ribbons, scented gifts and mini gift boxes, and couple photo props. Each group is a usable scene, so a florist, a restaurant, a supermarket buyer and an event planner can each order the part of the day they actually sell. The date is fixed at 14 February, which makes this a single-date programme with three demand curves stacked on top of each other. Gifting peaks in the last week before the day, dining peaks on the night itself, and retail sell-through runs from early January. The buying base is florists and gift chains, restaurants and bars, supermarket seasonal shelves, hotels and dessert shops, and event and wedding planners. Orders run on FOB, CIF or DDP terms, and the ten groups can be mixed in one container against one set of shipping documents. Tell us the channel you sell into and we will propose the kit mix, the colour system and the packing format.

Who buys this range, and how each sales channel configures it

The same date is bought in four different ways, and each channel configures the range differently. A restaurant needs a set table rather than loose decorations: place settings, a runner, a centrepiece, a candle holder and a string light, sized to the number of covers booked on the night. A bar adds a reserved table kit and a photo corner, which is where the props and the backdrop sit. A florist or a gift chain buys packaging as much as product, because rose wraps, heart boxes, ribbon, tags and bags are what the customer carries away, so those items are bundled in one group instead of being scattered across categories. A supermarket or variety retailer buys retail-ready kits with a printed header card, a barcode and a hang tag, sized to fit an endcap and priced for a single-date promotion. An event or wedding planner buys in scene quantities: backdrops, arch kits, chair covers and table centrepieces in multiples of ten tables. The same ten groups serve all five channels because the event is the same and only the unit changes. That is the reason the range is built by kit and tier rather than by material: a buyer who already orders balloons from a material category page is not looking for more balloons here, they are looking for the assembled dinner, the wrapped bouquet and the photographable corner.

How the kits attach to each other, and how the colour system works

Every group is designed to attach to at least two others, and the attachment is what the buyer actually sells. A bouquet goes into a heart box with a rose wrap, a ribbon and a tag. A dinner table takes a runner, place settings, a centrepiece, a candle holder and a string light. A retail kit combines balloons, a banner and a small prop set so that one purchase produces a visible scene. Cross-selling is planned at kit level, which means a carton can carry a hero item plus its add-ons, and a shelf display can be built from one delivery instead of five. Colour is the second half of that logic. Red and pink is the core that every market reads instantly; blush, rose gold and ivory is the quieter premium palette; red and black is the adult dining palette; white and metallics is the hotel and wedding palette. Keep a programme to three hues plus one neutral, and specify Pantone references rather than screen colours, because printed paper, dyed fabric, latex, foil film, glass and wax all shift the same colour differently. A consistent palette across ten groups is what makes a store display read as one programme instead of ten unrelated orders.

The three order tiers, and how a scene turns into piece counts

The range is planned in three tiers. The entry tier is a single-use consumer kit with small counts and a printed header card, built for shelf pickup. The mid tier is the wholesale set, with larger piece counts, fewer components and no gift packaging, built for a florist or a restaurant that assembles its own table. The premium tier is a gift-set configuration with a rigid box, tissue, ribbon and a card, and it carries most of the customisation. Quantity maths follows the scene, and a few conversions make an order concrete. A seated dinner needs one place setting per cover plus roughly ten per cent for breakage, one runner per table, and one centrepiece per table of eight. Balloon garlands take about twelve to fifteen balloons per running metre, so a 5 m arch is roughly eighty pieces. Petals run at roughly twenty to thirty pieces per place setting for a scatter and around two hundred per running metre for an aisle. For a retail endcap, work backwards from the number of kits you want on display and the units per carton. Send the number of covers, tables or shops you are planning for and we will convert it into piece counts, cartons and a loading plan, with all figures subject to confirmation on the actual order.

Names, dates and logos: what can be printed, and on which material

Customisation on this range runs through four processes. Hot stamping and foil blocking put a name, a date or a monogram on gift boxes, cards and chocolate box lids in gold, silver or rose gold, and it is the most requested finish on the premium tier. Screen printing covers banners, bunting, runners, bags and napkins in one to four colours. Digital printing carries photographic artwork on backdrops, photo props and cards, and it is the right route for shorter runs with a full-colour image. Pad printing and heat transfer put a logo on foil balloons, cups, coasters and small hard goods. Artwork requirements are consistent across all four: vector files such as AI, EPS or PDF with fonts outlined, 3 mm bleed on printed paper, die lines on packaging, and Pantone references rather than RGB. Two practical limits are worth designing around. Balloon artwork has to be drawn in the inflated state, because a straight line becomes a curve at full inflation, and the usable print area on an 18 inch foil balloon is small. Food contact items and candles can only be printed in the designated area, away from the rim and the wick. Send artwork at enquiry stage and we will confirm what each process can hold, on which substrate, and at what minimum.

Packing, cube, and how mixed-container loading works

Packing is quoted as an inner bag or inner box, then the export carton, and this range contains two different freight behaviours. Paper, balloons, petals, backdrops, plush and artificial flowers cube out: a carton is full long before it is heavy, so these lines are charged against volume rather than weight. Glass vases, ceramic plates, candle jars, tin boxes and resin figurines weigh out and need moulded pulp, dividers or honeycomb board to survive handling. A full container of Valentine's product alone is rarely efficient, because the light lines dominate the cube. The fix is mixed loading: bring in denser lines from other categories against the same shipping documents and one shipping date. Typical formats are 20 to 50 kits per carton for boxed sets, 100 to 200 pieces per carton for tableware, balloons and paper items, and one pallet per colour family where a display needs to travel together. Keep the inner packaging retail-ready so the carton can go straight to the shelf, and agree case marks, barcodes and carton dimensions before production. For palletised deliveries, confirm the pallet height and the maximum carton weight your warehouse can take before the packing specification is fixed. Carton counts, pallet counts and loading figures here are industry ranges and subject to confirmation on the actual order.

MOQ, sampling, lead time and the February calendar

Minimum order depends on the group. Small accessories such as tags, ribbon, confetti and picks start around 200 to 500 pieces per design. Paper tableware and napkins start around 1,000 to 3,000 pieces per design. Balloon kits, banner sets and table runner sets start around 300 to 1,000 sets. Boxed gift sets and rigid packaging sit at around 500 to 1,000 sets, and custom printed or foiled versions sit above stock minimums and are quoted against artwork. Sampling is usually five to ten days for stock items and ten to fifteen days where a customised component is involved, with one or two revision rounds. Stock production ships in 15 to 25 days; custom printed or private-label orders run 30 to 45 days from sample approval. The calendar matters more than the lead time. For 14 February, retail and florist stock needs to be in market by early January, which means production in November and early December and shipping before mid-December for a 30 to 40 day sea transit. Chinese New Year then closes factories for one to three weeks in January or February, so anything that slips into that window loses a month. Confirm the programme in October and hold print approvals before the shutdown. All MOQ, sampling and lead-time figures are industry ranges and subject to confirmation on the actual order.

Compliance: four families, and why they are not interchangeable

Compliance on this range splits into four families, and they are not interchangeable. Paper plates, cups, napkins, chocolate liners, candy wrappers and any item that touches food belongs to food contact rules and can be produced to FDA or LFGB requirements, with migration testing and a declaration of conformity. Novelty items aimed at children, such as prop glasses, small toys and some costume pieces, belong to toy rules and can be produced to EN 71-1, EN 71-2 and EN 71-3, or to CPSIA and ASTM F963 for the United States. Decorative plastics, printed film, coated fabric and faux leather fall under REACH and phthalate restrictions. Candles and any open-flame or flame-effect decoration need safety labelling, and certain formats are restricted in how they may be carried: wick, wax and fragrance documentation sits outside the toy and food families, and transport restrictions follow the carrier and the destination market, so treat candle shipments as subject to carrier and destination-market requirements and confirm before booking. String lights and any battery-powered item, including button-cell products, are electrical goods with their own safety standard and their own transport documents, and button cells carry additional packaging and warning obligations. Ask us for the current test report for the specific item rather than relying on a category description.

Quality control, and five things buyers get wrong

Quality control runs in four steps. A pre-production sample is approved against your artwork and specification before any material is cut. Inline checks cover print colour, colour consistency across batches, dimension and finish. Final inspection is an AQL sampling inspection with a carton drop test, and it is done before the container is loaded rather than after arrival. When the goods reach your warehouse, check that the palette across the ten groups still matches, because five suppliers of five reds will not agree. Five things buyers get wrong. First, treating a scene programme as loose items and ordering balloons without ribbon, weights or a pump. Second, approving colour on a screen: what is printed on paper, dyed into fabric and dipped into latex is three different reds. Third, leaving artwork until after the purchase order, which pushes the whole programme into the Chinese New Year window. Fourth, buying light and bulky lines without planning a mixed container, which is the largest avoidable freight cost in this category. Fifth, forgetting that battery-powered lighting and candles bring transport documents and safety labelling with them, and that a missing document can hold an entire shipment at the port. Specify the scene, the palette and the destination market at enquiry stage and each of these stays manageable.

Valentine's wholesale questions

  • What should a restaurant order for a Valentine's dinner service?

Start from the covers you have booked for the night rather than from a decoration budget. A dinner service needs one place setting per cover plus roughly ten per cent for breakage, one runner per table, one centrepiece per table of eight, and a candle holder and a string light per table if the room is dimmed. Most restaurants take a mid tier table set for the dining room and a small premium set for the two or three tables they photograph. Bars add a photo corner, which is where the backdrop, the props and the balloon kit sit. Tell us the number of covers and we will confirm the scene in sets rather than in pieces.

  • How do you keep the reds and pinks consistent across ten different groups?

By fixing the palette before production and specifying Pantone references rather than colour names or screen values. The same red behaves differently in printed paper, dyed fabric, dipped latex, foil film, coated glass and wax, so each group is matched against a physical standard rather than against the previous order. Keep a programme to three hues plus one neutral for the same reason. At arrival, compare the groups side by side in your own warehouse: five suppliers of five reds will not agree, so printed standards and a pre-production sample per group are the practical control.

  • Can you print guest names, dates or our logo on the gift packaging?

Yes, through four processes. Hot stamping and foil blocking carry names, dates and monograms on rigid boxes, cards and chocolate box lids. Screen printing covers banners, bunting, runners, bags and napkins. Digital printing handles full-colour artwork on backdrops, props and cards. Pad printing and heat transfer put a logo on foil balloons, cups, coasters and small hard goods. Send vector artwork with fonts outlined and Pantone references. Two limits to design around: balloon artwork must be drawn in the inflated state, and food contact items and candles can only be printed in the designated area. Custom versions sit above stock minimums and are quoted against your artwork.

  • How early do we need to place a Valentine's order with Chinese New Year in the middle?

Earlier than the lead time suggests. Stock production runs 15 to 25 days and custom work 30 to 45 days from sample approval, and sea transit to Europe or North America is 30 to 40 days before inland movement. Retail and florist stock needs to be in market by early January, so production should sit in November and early December and shipping should clear before mid-December. Chinese New Year then closes factories for one to three weeks in January or February and books capacity out on both sides. Confirm the programme in October and hold print approvals before the shutdown. All these figures are industry ranges and subject to confirmation on the actual order.

  • Can the ten groups be loaded together with our other categories in one container?

Yes, and mixed loading is what makes the freight work. Most of this range is light and bulky and cubes out well before it reaches weight capacity, while glass, ceramic and candle lines weigh out. Loading the two together, and adding denser lines from your other categories against the same shipping documents and one shipping date, brings the container to a sensible average density. We load across all ten groups in one programme on FOB, CIF or DDP terms. Two exclusions to plan for: candles and battery-powered lighting carry their own transport documentation, and any restriction follows the carrier and the destination market, so confirm before booking.
