What the Easter range covers

The Easter range covers twelve groups: colour eggs in plastic, foam and wood; egg fillers and mini toys; bunny and chick figurines; Easter baskets and filler grass; egg painting and colouring kits; table runners, napkins and table covers; paper plates, cups and dessert cups; decorative wreaths and hangers; egg hunt game props; window decals and clings; bunny-ear headbands and headwear; and egg-hunt bags and gift boxes. Easter is the season with the least stable calendar in the year. The date moves between late March and late April, so a retailer's shelf date moves with it, and a programme that worked last year can be three weeks early or three weeks late this year without anything else changing. That single fact drives how the range is planned: buyers work backwards from the shelf date they have been given, not from a fixed month. The range serves importers, supermarket and chain retail buyers, garden centres, craft and hobby chains, party wholesalers, and event and venue operators. It works on FOB, CIF or DDP terms, and the twelve groups are designed to load together so that one container can carry a full shelf set rather than a single category. Most programmes split into a repeat core of eggs, baskets, grass and bags, plus a smaller trial volume of kits, table settings and window decals.

Materials, and why eggs and baskets diverge

Material choice on Easter splits along one line: what has to look good on a shelf, and what has to survive being carried around a garden. Colour eggs show it most clearly. Plastic eggs are the volume item, moulded and hinged, sold by the hundred, holding colour and taking a fill. Wooden eggs cost more, weigh more, and read as a keepsake rather than a throwaway. Foam eggs are the lightest and the most bulky, and they dent. Baskets follow the same logic: willow and bamboo are the traditional look and carry a real load, seagrass and cotton rope coil are softer and cheaper, and felt, non-woven and moulded plastic baskets collapse flat, which is what a supermarket wants when shelf space is costed by the metre. Filler grass, sold in the same group as the baskets, is a paper-versus-plastic decision, where shredded paper and tissue raffia answer recyclable packaging briefs and PET grass answers price. Figurines are polyresin or ceramic for detail, flocked resin for the soft spring look, MDF for flat printed pieces, and chenille or plush at the low-price end. Window decals, wreaths and hangers are static PVC film, MDF, felt, and faux twig or grapevine. Table runners and napkins are paper, non-woven or textile, and paper plates, cups and dessert cups are food grade board with or without a PE coating, and the coating decides whether a plate holds a wet filling.

Sizes to specify against your existing Easter planogram

The size ladder is the one the market already buys, and it is worth specifying against your planogram rather than inventing a new one. Colour eggs run 3 cm and 4 cm mini, 5 cm, 6 cm, 8 cm and 10 cm standard, 15 cm and 20 cm large decorative, and 24-piece or 48-piece mixed sets; the fillable mid sizes are the volume sizes, and 15 cm and above are display pieces. Baskets run 12 cm and 15 cm as minis and 15 cm, 20 cm, 25 cm and 30 cm across the diameter, where 12 to 20 cm covers a child's egg hunt and 25 to 30 cm is a shelf or gift basket. Basket handles are 18 cm and 22 cm in arc length. Filler grass is specified by bag weight rather than size: 50 g and 100 g bags, in 3 mm and 5 mm shredded cuts. Figurines run 5 cm and 8 cm as minis, 8 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm for tabletop use, and 25 cm and 35 cm for outdoor ground stakes. Egg hunt props run to clue cards at 10 x 15 cm, sign boards at 20 x 30 cm, a 20 cm hunt basket, 25 cm high ground stakes and an A3 map. Table runners and napkins follow 30 x 150 cm and 30 x 180 cm runners and 33 x 33 cm and 40 x 40 cm napkins, with table covers at 140 x 220 cm or 150 cm diameter, while paper plates and cups follow 7 inch and 9 inch, 9 oz and 12 oz and 2 oz and 4 oz dessert cups, in 8-person and 16-person sets. Egg-hunt bags run 18 x 22 cm to 26 x 32 cm, and gift boxes are sized in 5 cm steps so that they nest.

Packing, carton sizes and the cube problem on grass and baskets

Packing is quoted in two layers: an inner bag or colour box, then the export carton. Easter is a light, high-cube season and this is where freight is won or lost. Filler grass is the extreme case, because a carton of loose paper shred is close to all air, so it ships compressed or in retail-weighted bags rather than bulk. Baskets nest, but a nested willow basket still holds its rim depth, so 24 to 48 pieces per carton is normal for 25 to 30 cm sizes and 48 to 96 for 20 cm. Colour eggs run 60 to 144 per carton in plastic and 20 to 48 per carton in wood. Figurines at 8 to 15 cm run 36 to 120 per carton with foam or pulp dividers. Paper plates, cups and dessert cups run 125 per inner bag with four bags to a carton, so 500 per carton for a 9 inch plate. Wreaths and window decals run 24 to 100 per carton depending on diameter and sheet size. Bags and gift boxes are flat-packed, which makes them the density filler that lifts a light container back into a sensible load factor. If the order is heavy on grass, baskets and foam eggs, expect to cube out before weighing out, so tell us the volume mix at enquiry stage and we will propose a loading plan rather than quoting item by item.

How to order: MOQ, colour mixes and mixed loading

Minimum order depends on the group. Small accessories such as headbands, hair clips, treat pouches, stickers and small figurines start around 100 to 300 pieces per design. Mid-range items such as table runners and napkins, paper plates and cups, gift bags and boxes, and painting kits start at 200 to 500 pieces per design, or 50 to 100 sets where the item is sold as a kit. Larger items such as Easter baskets, wreaths and 35 cm ground stakes start at 50 to 200 pieces per design, because the unit is bigger and the tooling and packing cost sits in the unit. Colour mixes inside a design are normally allowed, so a 500-piece order of eggs or headbands can be split across pastel pink, blue, yellow, green and white rather than committed colour by colour. That matters more in Easter than in most seasons, because the category is bought as a pastel palette and buyers usually want all five colours present in a display. Mixed loading across all twelve groups against one set of shipping documents and one shipping date is the normal way to make the freight work, on FOB, CIF or DDP terms. Treat the ranges above as planning figures and confirm MOQ, colour split and loading on the actual order.

Customisation: print, colour and packaging

Customisation runs at three levels. The lightest is print on stock items: your logo or greeting on paper plates and cups, napkins, gift bags, boxes, tags and banners. The middle level is colour and material change: eggs, felt pieces, baskets and grass produced in your specified palette rather than a generic pastel mix, and this is where Easter briefs usually start, because the season is bought as a colour story. The deepest level is packaging: your own printed box, insert card, hang tag and barcode, and for baskets a printed liner or name tag. Printed paper and board items are the easiest to customise and take four-colour process plus one or two spot colours, including gold or silver foil on paper plates and hang tags. Screen print on plastic eggs, felt pieces and bags is normally limited to two or three colours. Woven baskets, wood turnings and resin figurines are the hardest, because colour has to be set before weaving, turning or moulding, so minimums there are far higher. Custom minimums generally start around 1,000 pieces per design for print and private label, and around 2,000 for custom outer packaging. Lead time and the Easter deadline

Stock designs usually ship in 15 to 25 days. Custom printed or private label orders run 30 to 45 days from sample approval. Easter is harder to plan than a fixed-date season, because the date moves every year. Work backwards from your shelf date rather than forwards from the enquiry: retail sets the aisle three to four weeks before the holiday, sea transit from Asia to Europe or North America is 30 to 40 days, port and inland movement is about two weeks, and sampling with one revision round is two to three weeks. For an early Easter, that puts the enquiry in the previous October or November; for a late Easter, December or January is still workable. The trap is that an early Easter and the lunar new year can collide, which removes two to three weeks of capacity from the supply base at exactly the point an Easter programme needs it. Spring is also the peak window for garden and outdoor ranges, so carton, print and coating capacity is shared with several other categories at the same time. Buyers running Easter and the summer season in the same year usually sequence them, with Easter production clearing before the spring holiday period. Confirm the schedule against your actual shelf date on the order.

Compliance, and why a dye kit is not a decoration

Compliance on Easter splits into four families, and the split matters because buyers often assume one document covers a whole order. Decorations such as colour eggs, baskets, grass, figurines, wreaths and window decals are generally toy items when they are intended for play, and can be produced to EN 71-1 for mechanical safety and EN 71-2 where there is any fabric or headwear element, as there is on bunny-ear headbands and plush hats.   • What is the minimum order for Easter decorations?

    It depends on the group. Small accessories such as headbands, hair clips, stickers and treat pouches start around 100 to 300 pieces per design. Mid-range items such as table runners and napkins, paper plates and cups, gift bags and boxes and painting kits start at 200 to 500 pieces per design, or 50 to 100 sets for kit formats. Larger items such as woven baskets, wreaths and 25 cm figurines start at 50 to 200 pieces per design. Colour mixes inside a design are normally allowed. Confirm the MOQ for your mix on the actual order.

  • How early should we order when the Easter date moves every year?

    Work backwards from your shelf date, not from a month. Retail sets the aisle three to four weeks before the holiday, sea transit is 30 to 40 days, port and inland movement is about two weeks, and sampling with one revision round is two to three weeks. That puts the enquiry in the previous October or November for an early Easter. An early Easter can also collide with the lunar new year, which removes capacity across the supply base, so confirm the schedule against your actual shelf date.
