Favors
Gift bags, favour boxes, small gifts
What the favours range covers
The favours range covers nine groups: gift bags in paper, non-woven and jute, candy and favour boxes, thank-you cards and tags, small toys and stationery, keyrings and fridge magnets, stickers, raffia and tissue filler, ribbons and ties, and mini fragrance and handmade soap. Favours are the smallest items on an order and the ones buyers most often ask to have changed, so this is the group where customisation does the most work. A plain kraft box is a commodity; the same box printed with a name, a date and a monogram becomes a retail SKU that a wedding or occasion retailer can sell by theme rather than by size. The range is built for wedding and event wholesalers, party retailers, stationery and gift importers, print and personalisation shops, corporate gifting distributors and occasion retailers, and it works on FOB, CIF or DDP terms. Two things shape the whole category. Pieces are small and light, so inner packs run to hundreds and cartons to thousands, and the buyer is usually assembling a matched programme of box, bag, ribbon, tag and card in one palette rather than buying a single SKU.

Materials and finishes, and where the price difference comes from
Material decides both the price and the application. Kraft paperboard is the volume substrate: inexpensive, printable and the default for favour boxes and flat candy bags. White card, coated or uncoated, takes colour print and foil far better and is what brand-led buyers specify. Rigid greyboard wrapped in printed paper is the premium format for wedding and corporate favour boxes. Non-woven polypropylene is the workhorse for gift and favour bags because it is reusable, printable and the cheapest reusable bag on the market. Organza, satin, jute and cotton muslin cover the drawstring end: organza for weddings, jute for rustic themes, muslin for natural and baby ranges. Acrylic and tinplate appear as rigid favour containers, and speciality papers such as textured, pearlescent and kraft-black stock are what separate a stationery range from a party range. Finishing is the second decision and it is not interchangeable. Hot foil stamping gives a metal-finish name or logo and is the standard for wedding and corporate work. Embossing and debossing press a raised or recessed mark into the paper with no ink. UV spot coating adds a gloss patch on a matte surface. Screen printing lays down opaque colour on non-woven, jute and cotton, where offset ink will not hold.
Sizes, and why internal fit matters more than the box number
The size ladder is the one favour buyers already work in. Favour boxes: 5 x 5 x 8 cm and 6 x 6 x 6 cm cover most candy and small-gift formats, with pillow boxes at 6 x 6 cm and cube boxes at 5 cm and 7 cm. Gift bags: 20 x 25 cm and 25 x 30 cm are the two sizes that carry a full favour programme, and flat paper candy bags run 10 x 15 cm. Organza pouches: 7 x 9 cm and 10 x 15 cm. Cards: A6 and A7 for thank-you cards, 9 x 5 cm folded for place cards. Ribbon: 1 cm, 1.5 cm, 2.5 cm and 5 cm widths, with 2.5 cm the most common for favour work and 5 cm for box wraps. Candy jars: 100 ml and 200 ml. Confetti cones: 15 cm. Table numbers: 1 to 30 as a set. The rule that matters more than any single number is internal fit. A favour box is quoted by its external dimensions in most catalogues, but it is the internal depth that decides whether three truffles fit or only two. Send us the item that goes inside, not just the box size, and we will confirm the fit against the insert.
Packing, carton counts and the freight consequence
Packing is quoted in two layers: an inner bag, header card or colour box, and then the export carton, and the Yiwu convention writes it as the carton count plus how a carton breaks down into boxes and pieces - 240 pieces to a carton reads as 12 pieces per box times 20 boxes. Carton counts are typical rather than confirmed: comparable party and gift lines run about 130 to 1,200 pieces per carton depending on the size of the piece, while filler materials such as raffia, paper shred and tissue are packed by weight rather than by piece, commonly in 50 g and 100 g inner packs. Outer cartons cluster into two size families, 50 x 40 x 40 cm and 70 x 50 x 60 cm, with other measured sizes in the same families such as 55 x 54 x 54 cm, 66 x 41.5 x 43 cm, 67 x 37.5 x 34 cm, 70 x 50 x 58 cm and 88 x 58 x 54 cm; gross weight is mostly 10 to 21 kg per carton. Favours are mostly light and bulky - paper bags, boxes, cards and stickers cube out before they weigh out, so they are charged on volume - while ribbon reels, tins, candles and soap are dense and lift the average container density. Loading the two together is what keeps freight per unit sensible. Carton figures are typical for the line and are confirmed against the actual order.
How to order: MOQ, personalisation minimums and mixed loading
Minimum order depends on the group and on whether the item is stock or custom. Stock favour boxes, bags, ribbons, tags and cards start around 100 to 500 pieces per design, and the smallest accessories such as seals and stickers can start around 500 pieces per design or 20 to 50 sheets. Rigid assembled boxes and ready-made favour sets start lower in units and higher in value, commonly 50 to 200 pieces or 10 to 50 sets. Custom print moves the minimum up: a single printed line on a stock box commonly starts around 1,000 pieces per design, full-colour all-over print around 2,000, and hot foil, embossing and die-cutting carry one-time tooling charges on top of the unit minimum, so they pay back over a reorder rather than on a first trial order. Colour mixes inside a design are normally allowed, so 1,000 favour boxes can be split across two or three colours. A personalised flavour is different: a different name or date on every unit is a variable-data job and is quoted separately from a single-design print run. Tell us the occasion, the palette and the item that goes inside, and we will propose box, bag, ribbon and card together against one minimum.
Customisation: how print, colour and packaging turn a stock item into a retail SKU
This is the group where customisation is the product rather than an option, and it is worth being precise about how a stock item becomes a retail SKU. Three variables do the work: print, colour and packaging. Print is the name, date, monogram, logo or greeting, the change that turns a plain kraft box into a wedding favour and a plain non-woven bag into a corporate gift. Colour is the substrate and the ribbon, kraft against white card, and a ribbon dyed to a bridal or brand palette instead of a stock assortment. Packaging is the outer presentation: a sleeve, a printed insert card, a hang tag, a barcode, a shrink band, which is what a retailer needs before an item can be ranged at all. The techniques are not interchangeable. Hot foil stamping gives a metallic name or logo and is the default for wedding and corporate work. Embossing and debossing give a tactile mark without ink and read as premium on uncoated and textured stock. UV spot coating adds gloss contrast on a matte print. Screen printing is how colour is laid onto non-woven, jute and cotton, where offset ink will not hold. Send artwork at enquiry stage, because file format and colour count decide the method, and the method decides the minimum.
Lead time, and working backwards from a fixed event date
Stock designs usually ship in 15 to 25 days. Custom printed or private label orders run 25 to 40 days from artwork approval, and programmes that combine foil, die-cutting and assembly across several components can extend to around 45 days. Unlike Christmas and Halloween, favours have no single national deadline, because demand is spread across wedding season, graduation, corporate event calendars and the general gifting calendar. Each individual order still has a hard date, and it is usually a fixed event date that cannot move. Plan backwards from that date: two to three weeks for artwork, sampling and revision, 25 to 40 days production, 25 to 35 days sea transit, and around two weeks for port, clearance and inland delivery. A wedding or graduation order placed less than three months out should be treated as a rush. The realistic options at that point are stock designs with printed labels rather than a full custom run, or air freight on part of the volume, and air freight is expensive relative to the value of printed paper goods. Repeat corporate buyers should keep artwork, plates and dies on file so a reorder skips sampling entirely.
Compliance, split by packaging, toys and food contact
Compliance here is decided by the substrate and by what the item is meant to hold. Items can be produced to EN 71, CPSIA, FDA, LFGB and REACH standards; ask us for the current test reports for the specific item. Three families need their own confirmation before an order is placed. Containers sold to hold unwrapped confectionery or a baked item - candy boxes, tins, jars and their insert trays - are food contact items and follow the food contact route rather than a toy report. Toys and stationery for children follow the toy route for the destination market. Candles and handmade soap are a separate case again: they carry fragrance, fire-safety and skin-contact considerations, the fragrance and cosmetic documentation has to be confirmed for the destination market, and candles are treated as dangerous or restricted goods for freight, so the shipping route must be confirmed before booking. Tell us the destination market and the exact item at enquiry stage and we will confirm which documents apply and provide the current reports available for that item.
Five things buyers get wrong on favours
Five things buyers get wrong on favours. First, specifying the box number instead of the internal fit: catalogues quote external dimensions, and one centimetre of internal depth decides whether the product fits at all. Second, treating personalisation as ordinary print: one design printed 1,000 times is one price, the same box printed with a different name on every unit is a variable-data job with a different minimum, and the two are quoted separately. Third, ordering ribbon after the box: the box is the long lead item but the ribbon is what makes the palette hold together, so lock the ribbon colour at the same time as the box print or you will be matching a colour reference to a stock ribbon that does not exist. Fourth, assuming a food contact report on the box covers the sweets inside: the report covers the container, and responsibility for the confectionery is the filler's. Fifth, forgetting the reorder: with hot foil or embossing, the plate and die are the expensive part, so a second order from the same artwork within the same season carries no new tooling.

Favours wholesale questions
What is the minimum order for favours?
It depends on the group and on whether the item is stock or custom. Stock favour boxes, bags, ribbons, tags and cards start around 100 to 500 pieces per design, and the smallest accessories such as seals and stickers can start around 500 pieces per design or 20 to 50 sheets. Rigid assembled boxes and ready-made favour sets start at 50 to 200 pieces or 10 to 50 sets. Custom print moves the minimum up, commonly to around 1,000 pieces per design for a printed line and around 2,000 for full-colour all-over print, with a one-time tooling charge for hot foil, embossing and die-cutting.
Can every favour carry a different name or date?
Yes, but it is a variable-data print job and it is quoted separately from a single-design run. A box printed with one design 1,000 times is one price; the same box printed with a different name, date or monogram on each unit is priced per version and normally needs a higher total quantity to be economic. Send us the number of distinct names and the item count and we will confirm what is achievable and at what minimum.
How do we know the gift will actually fit inside the box?
Send us the item that goes inside, not only the box size. Favour boxes are quoted by external dimensions in most catalogues, and it is the internal depth and the position of the insert tray that decide whether three truffles fit or only two. We will confirm the internal dimensions and, where needed, cut an insert tray to the fill so the contents do not move in transit.
Are the favour boxes food safe if we fill them with candy or chocolate?
Where a box, jar or pouch is sold to hold unwrapped confectionery or a baked item, the container and any insert tray are food contact items and can be produced to the food contact requirements of the destination market, such as FDA for the United States or LFGB for Germany, including the coating. This is a separate report family: a toy safety report does not cover a candy box, and the report covers the container, not the confectionery inside. Tell us the destination market and the fill, and ask us for the current reports for the specific item.
How far ahead should a wedding or graduation favour order be placed?
Work backwards from the event date. Allow two to three weeks for artwork, sampling and revision, 25 to 40 days production for custom print, 25 to 35 days sea transit and around two weeks for port, clearance and inland delivery. An order placed less than three months out is a rush, and the realistic options are stock designs with printed labels rather than a full custom run, or air freight on part of the volume.
